On January 5th, 2026, our beloved Willie James Harris, a steadfast pillar of our community, gently passed away. Born on October 17th, 1943, in Midland, Texas, to John Harris and Thelma Tyler. Willie was a humble man of unwavering strength and infectious joy, whose love for his family was as vast as the Texas plains where he was born. Willie was a loving father, a devoted Shriner, a masterful plumber, and an inspiring figure in Denver, Colorado, where he resided.
Willie's accomplishments were many, and he wore each one with a deep sense of humility. He was raised and loved living in the Five Points Area of Colorado as an adolescent. Willie attended Denver public school throughout his life before graduating from Manuel High School. In his professional life, he was a master plumber for the city and county of Denver, retiring in 2003 after a successful career. He was also a savvy businessman, owning several properties which he rented out to families over the years. As the poet Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Willie embodied this sentiment, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Outside of work, Willie was a passionate fan of the Denver Broncos, spending many a Sunday cheering on his favorite team and watching Tiger Woods. He was also an active member of the Shriners' Temple 49, traveling across the country to march in parades. His joy was infectious, his presence comforting, and his spirit was undeniably inspiring. He had a special love for family gatherings in the park, especially when he could spend time with his grandchildren. Willie was preceded in death by his father, John Harris, his mother, Thelma Tyler, and his beloved great-grandmother, Grandma Madden Pearl. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Willie and Eddie Harris, and his daughters, Rosilyn Gadison and Angela Harris, his 10 grandchildren,13 great grandchildren, his one living cousin, Malcolm, and a host of friends.
