Obituary

A father, brother, son, cousin and helper of all mankind, Roderick (Rod) passed away on Friday February 9, 2024.
A native of Guilford County, Roderick Shawn Garner-Jones was born to Alec JR and Gwendolyn Garner on September 21, 1972. Alec served in the armed forces with the Army branch and was relocated and stationed to Denver, Colorado with his family. At the age of four(4) Rod would end his temporary journey in Denver, Colorado and return to North Carolina to live with his grandmother. Roderick was raised and reared by Clementine E. Jones known as "Ganny" and Billy Tucker (Papa).
A strong, resolute, and faithful grandmother known to some as "Sister" and who received the name "Ganny" by April enjoyed instilling life lessons and spending time with Rod. Roderick grew up to become a strong happy individual who knew how to make people laugh. He was a generous loving person always willing to help others and rarely said no to others who asked him for help. He always spoke to family, friends, acquaintances, and strangers while calling to check on everyone. Rod enjoyed taking walks, watching college football and his favorite of all time, cooking. If you knew Ganny, you already knew that he would learn how to cook and clean.
He attended Greensboro city school where he picked up the sport of football. He played for Warnersville Recreation Center, Jackson Junior High School, and Smith High School. Rod graduated from Smith High School in May 1992. Roderick had two beautiful children and was the father of Roderick Shawn Jones, Jr., and KaMarley N. Alston, both of Greensboro, North Carolina. Rod returned back to his old faithful stomping ground where it all began in Colorado in his mid- thirties and continued to live his life out in Colorado enjoying time with his mom and meeting new people.
Preceding him in death were his grandmother, Clementine Jones, great grandfather Paul Miller, great grandmother Louise Miller, several great aunts, and uncles as well as cousins.
