Jimmie Myres was born on May 16, 1950 in Shreveport, Louisiana to his Earnest Myres, Sr. and Vassie Jernigan Myres. He was the ninth of nine children born out of this Union. He grew up with his Siblings, Nelson, Willie Ray, Hardy, Louis L., Raymond Earl, McArthur, Franklin, Earnest Jr. and his only Sister Herma Jean. As a child Jimmie enjoyed fishing and swimming in the creek behind his childhood home. Jimmie attended DeBerry Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School in Elysian Fields, Texas. In 1963 Jimmie's Mother passed away when he was only 13 years old. After the passing of his mother, he came to Denver and lived with His Brother Louis L., Wife Evelyn and children. Jimmie attended Cole Jr. High School while living with Louis L. and Evelyn. He then moved to Los Angeles and stayed with his brother Willie Ray, but he wanted to be with his Sister Herma Jean in Oakland who helped raise him. He graduated from Oakland Technical High School in 1970. After High School Jimmie joined the Army and eventually was shipped to Vietnam. After he completed his call of duty he moved back to Oakland. There he met Stephanie Watters and from this relationship, his one and only child, April Yvonne Myres was born on October 4, 1974.
Jimmie eventually moved back to Denver for good. On Friday, February 13, 1998 Jimmie met the love of his life Venita at Pierres Supper Club. It was an immediate attraction between them and they fell in love. Jimmie and Venita both loved listening to Old School, the Blues and Gospel Music. Believe it or not they both liked Frank Sinatra. Jimmie and Venita were joined in Holy Matrimony on August 31, 2002. With this union Jimmie inherited a Stepson Aubrey Johnson. Later Jimmie was blessed with his Granddaughters Ebony, Jane', Saniyah, Abria and Anika and one Grandson Rashad and two Great Grandsons Ma'Kari and Kashmier. His Grandchildren affectionally called him Grandpa and Papa.
On Sundays after Church Jimmie watched Football. Jimmie loved the Denver Broncos and would literally become frustrated when they lost a game! On Saturdays Jimmie would get Venita and Jane' in his car and go riding in different neighborhoods looking at houses. Other times he would just drive East on I-70 until Venita would tell him to turn around before they ended up in Kansas.
Jimmie was a faithful and devoted Member, Usher and Trustee of the Greater Union Baptist Church in Denver, CO under the leadership of his Brother-in-Law the Reverend Dr. Gregory D. Johnson.
By profession Jimmie was a Skycap. He started working at Stapleton Airport in 1974 and then DIA until March 13, 2020. He only stopped working because of the COVID Pandemic. In May of 2020, Jimmie begin to have health problems. But being a Child of GOD and a fighter, he lived a good life until the LORD brought him home.
Jimmie Myres departed this life on this earth on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Jimmie was preceded in death by his Parents Earnest, Sr. and Vassie; his Brothers Nelson, Willie Ray, Hardy, Louis L., Raymond Earl, McArthur, Earnest Jr., and his Stepson Aubrey Johnson.
Jimmie leaves a legacy to be remembered by his Wife Venita Myres, his Daughter April Myres, his Bonus Daughter Jane' Graham, his Sister Herma Jean Gardere, his Brother Franklin (Carolyn) Myres. His Grandchildren Ebony and Saniyah, his Bonus Grandchildren Abria, Rashad and Anika, Great Grandchildren and a Host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, other relatives and friends.
