Mr. Otis James (Obie) Hammons was born June 11, 1960. The youngest boy, but 5th child to the union of Mr. Claud Amos Hammons (deceased) and Mrs. Mary Louise (Burt) Hammons.
Otis was educated in the Denver Public Schools System, attending his elementary years at Whittier Elementary School, Grant Junior High School, and graduated in 1978 from Manual High School all in Denver, CO.
Otis furthered his education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO; majoring in Communications. After a few years at " UNC" Otis decided to join the United States armed forces. Being placed after receiving an elevated score in testing, he was placed in the few and Proud "Marine Corp"; where he served and was honorably discharged after four years.
Otis had various jobs, he was a builder for Big Surf Waterbeds in the late 80's, He also worked for the Water board Company and gained his CDL License; he retired from driving professionally for several moving company businesses throughout the Denver, Colorado area. He as his father, passion was driving. He possessed this skill until his passing.
Otis married Andre Sloan in 1982, in Denver, Colorado. To this union his only child was born a girl named Ardis Renee (Hammons) Bluebyrd in 1989.
Otis enjoyed the outdoors, canoeing, white water rafting, skiing, hang gliding, skydiving, traveling and playing the piano. He also enjoyed watching and playing sports, being with family, cookouts, and celebrating holidays and birthdays in particular where special to him.
On September 14, 2024, God called Otis home.
Otis was preceded in death by his father Mr. Claud Amos Hammons, Sister Claudette Parks, maternal grandparents Mr. Foster Sr. and Mrs. Johnnie Lee Burt, paternal grandparents Mr. Hershell Esaw Hammons Sr. and Mrs. Odie Williams. Uncles: Hershell E. (Agnes) Hammons Jr., Cleo Hammons, Foster Jr., McNeil (Mammie) Burt, Clifford (Patricia) Hammons, & George (Elenora) Burt.
Aunts: Elizabeth (Sonny) Dillard, Rosemary (Roy) Huntington, Matilda (Elijah) Close, Purdie Lee Hammons, Delane (Willis) Peasant, Leolar Hampton, and Brother in Law Alioune N'diaye.
Otis leaves to mourn his memory: his daughter Ardis R. Bluebyrd, his mother Mary Louise Hammons. His brothers Clifford (Mang) Hammons, Gilbert "Doon" (Jackie) Hammons. Sisters Janis Marie (Keith) Haggerty, Patricia Hammons and Genette N'diaye. Nephews: Clifford A. Hammons Jr., Cedell Young and Askia N'diaye. Great Nephews: Rashad Parks, C.A. Dajzore Whitsett, Christian, Cameron, Aubrey, Akeel, Samuel, Andrew and Ajuah. Nieces: LaDonna Hall, Aisha Parks, Penda N'diaye, Portia K. Mitchell, Michaelia J. Maxey, and Bridget, Gabrielle and Whitney Hammons. Great Nieces: Rneil JaCoe Stewart, Zalayha M. Young and Aniyah. Special Friends: David Bennett, Nigil Mosley, Teri Lopez, Michael Lorens, Angella White, and JoAnn. Along with numerous other family members, friends and acquaintances.
Otis will truly be missed by those he knew and loved.
