Obituary

A time to be born
Mary L Mathis was born December 23, 1943, in Blue Mountain, Mississippi to the late Ned Jones and Addie B Garner.

A time to plant
Brought up to love the Lord she gave all the glory, honor and praise to her heavenly father. Mary professed at an early age her belief in Christ at Beulah Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Blue Mountain Mississippi under the leadership of Reverend Lee Foster. She moved to Memphis in the early 1960s to pursue a better job. She joined Lamar Terrace Missionary Baptist Church in 1978 under the leadership of Pastor Ben Young. Shortly after joining LTMBC she rededicated her life back to Christ and has been on the battlefield for the Lord ever since.

Mary was an amazing soldier in the army of the Lord. Every chance she had she would tell people how amazing her God is and would ask if they knew Him. As she began telling you how awesome and wonderful God is her face would feel with glem. Once you hear one of her many testimonies, you would be left wanting to hear more and more about this great God she so passionately talked about.

Prior to her health declining, Mary devoted many hours serving in her church and giving back to her community. She loved doing upholstery work, teaching Sunday School, ushering, and doing volunteer work at the neighborhood Christian Center where she would assist with feeding and clothing those in need. She worked for Commonwealth insurance company for a number of years before giving it all up to focus on her family and her ministry. In 1988 She became a mother all over again when her sister was called home to be with the Lord, leaving 3 beautiful children to raise as her own.

A time to love
Married 58 years to Franklin Mathis who preceded her in death.
