It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Maurice Cates Jr., known affectionately to us as Neo, who left this world far too soon on November 17, 2023, just shy of his 35th birthday. Born on December 13, 1988, in Denver, Colorado, Maurice was a beacon of light who shone brightly, touching the lives of all those fortunate enough to have known him.

Talented, creative, and smart, Maurice was a force to be reckoned with in the world of gaming. His dexterity and strategic thinking led him to become the nation's third-ranked professional gamer, a remarkable achievement that enabled him to travel the USA mostly Las Vegas and abroad to Japan and other countries for competitions. This was a testament to his passion and dedication. His employment as a Background Tech at American Data Base was a testament to his intellectual prowess and ability to navigate complex systems. He loved computers. However, Maurice was more than just his accomplishments. He was a lover of Pho, drawing, martial arts, Asian Anime and above all, his beloved cat, Ora. Maurice Loved Superhero's, his favorite being Batman & Dragon Ball Z. As Steve Jobs once said, "The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do." Maurice, in his unique way, changed the world around him with his vibrant personality and infectious enthusiasm.

Maurice's memory will be cherished by his father, Maurice Sr., his mother, Alicia Quillen, his sister, Miyah Cates, his brother, Tyler Bocanegra, and his grandfather, Ronald Blatherwick. His aunts, Kara Blatherwick and Laura Olivanti, will remember him fondly, as will his dear friends, Veralidiana and Fabia Gamboni. He joins his grandmother, Mary Balatherwick, Juanita Cates, and grandfather LeRoy Cates in eternal rest.
