Obituary

With a heart full of compassion that left no one untouched, we bid farewell to Mary R. Gallegos, affectionately known by many as "Honey" or "Grams". Born on January 13, 1935, in Logan, NM, Mary lived a life as vibrant and engaging as the dance floors she so loved. Her undeniable wit and generous spirit were her signature, and she wielded them like a beacon, lighting up the lives of all who knew her.

Mary's dedication to her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) was unparalleled. Her 40-year tenure in healthcare was studded with accolades, including being named Employee of the Month three times at Bryans Extended Care Center in Arizona. Yet her work was never about the recognition. It was her unfailing commitment to helping others, her ability to bring laughter into the most challenging situations, and her tireless dedication that truly set her apart. "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others," Mahatma Gandhi once said, a quote that perfectly encapsulates Mary's approach to her profession and life.

However, Mary's true pride and joy were her family. She was the resilient rock of her family, the heart of their gatherings, and the instigator of their laughter. The kitchen was Mary's domain, where she cooked for her loved ones and created memories that will last a lifetime. She was the proud matriarch of five generations, cherishing her 132 grandkids and their growing families. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed traveling, yard work, and the occasional excitement of slot machines. She also had a charming tradition of flicking the bottoms of all the babies' heels, a gesture that will be fondly remembered and carried forward.

Mary is survived by her children Virginia Martinez, Louis Gallegos Jr, Bertha Garcia, Lindamae Gallegos, Donna Gallegos, Albert Gallegos, Angela Cook, and Mary Ann Gallegos. She was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Maria Eligia Romero, her beloved husband Louis Sr., and her sons Tom and Anthony Gallegos and daughter Lydia Blanckaert.

We invite you all to celebrate Mary's life by sharing memorable moments, photos, and stories on her memorial page. It is in these shared memories that we can keep Mary's generous, loving, and funny spirit alive and thriving.
