Marcus L. James was born on June 26, 1966, in Denver, CO, to Leroy and Celestine James, he passed away on his 58th birthday, June 26, 2024. Marcus, affectionately known as the baby of the family, was adored by his parents and his older sister, Teresa Gater, who was nine years his senior. His vibrant personality and infectious humor made him a joy to be around.

Marcus attended George Washington High School, where he excelled as a star athlete in both football and wrestling. After high school, Marcus studied Business Administration at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.

A hardworking and driven individual, Marcus held various leadership roles during his career. He spent several years with King Soopers, where his entrepreneurial spirit flourished on the side. Marcus owned a successful vending machine business and a T-shirt company, known for its popular slogan, "It's all good in the hood."

For nearly 15 years, Marcus served as a property manager at Hans Nielsen. His outstanding contributions to the industry were recognized when he received the Tributes Award for "Most Outstanding Rookie to the Industry" from the Apartment Association of Metro Denver in November 2011.

Marcus was also incredibly creative and loved working with his hands to build and create things. His talents were boundless; whether it was crafting his unique cloud light fixtures, engaging in intricate woodworking, or developing hydroponic gardening items, Marcus could create anything he set his mind to.

In addition to his professional achievements, Marcus was honored with the Presidential Customer Service Award from King Soopers for his heroic act of saving someone's life.

In his own words, Marcus described himself as "polite, professional (sometimes silly lol), very friendly, and at the same time diligent, hardworking, and dogmatic." His mission was to maintain a high level of efficiency and output, striving always to be the best in his field.

Marcus leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his beloved mother, Celestine James; his son, Marc Anthony Esparza; his niece, Nakia Gater; his nephews, Stephan Gater and Darian Gater; and ten cherished grandchildren. He will also be dearly missed by a host of cousins, family members, and friends.

Marcus's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and an unwavering positive spirit. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his warmth, humor, creativity, and unyielding commitment to excellence.
