Obituary

Lola Mae Watson was born on January 30, 1924, to the union of Sarah Jane Lewis and Louis Henry Watson in Denver, CO. She transitioned on June 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family at the Suites at Clermont Park, Denver, CO.

Lola attended Whittier Elementary School and Cole Middle School – both, Denver, CO. Upon her graduation from middle school, Lola attended and graduated from St. Benedict and Moore High School (Milwaukee, WI).

Lola pursued her general studies at St. Benedict while enjoying classes in beauty culture, vocal lessons, dancing, typing, and shorthand. She was also a member of the B-Club. Her lifelong hobbies included sewing, embroidery, working jigsaw puzzles, shopping, and painting by numbers.

Before returning to Denver, she was on the trajectory to becoming a nun. However, her father became deathly ill, which interrupted her studies in Milwaukee. She returned to Denver and later met and married the love of her life, Jackie Howard Chambers, in 1946. Together they had 3 beautiful children: Norene Chambers, John Howard Chambers, II, and Jacqueline Ann Chambers. As a working mother and nurse, one of Lola's favorite past times was tilling her beloved garden and doing yard work.

Lola attended Emily Griffith Technical College (Denver, CO). There she studied nursing, and after graduating, she subsequently became a Licensed Practical Nurse, {LPN}. She practiced in the field while working and eventually retired from Denver General Hospital in 1982. Lola was very personable with a bubbly disposition. She was very effervescent with a take-charge attitude and was credited for her kindness and compassion for others, especially in her field of nursing.

Lola lived to become a centenarian in 2024 and enjoyed being the family matriarch of six generations of descendants. She was preceded in death by both parents; her sister Dorothy Jane Wood and husband Alfred Wood; son John, and daughter Jacqueline.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Norene Chambers; granddaughter, DeBania
Alfreda Christie; grandsons, John (Coretta) Bell, Michael Moore, and Jonathan Ortega; great grandsons, John Bell, Jr., Shiloh Ortega; and Gabriel Howard (Karlett) Christie; great granddaughters, London Dior Bell and Avaya Rose Bell; great, great grandson, John Bell, II; and great, great grandson, John Bell, III, and great, great granddaughter, Penelope Aurora Christie; sister-in-law, Maecola Chambers Drewery and her daughter, Dorothy Ann Drewery (Edwards); daughter-in-law, Bobbie Chambers; and son-in-law Gregory, Thomas Robinson. She also leaves a host of family, relatives, and friends in Denver and around the country.
