Obituary

Lillie Chaney was born on March 18, 1932, in Greensburg, Louisiana, to the union of Mr. James Chaney and Mrs. Callener McClendon Chaney. She received her formal education through the St. Helena Parish School District, where she excelled in basketball, academics and developed a lifelong love for learning.

On May 30, 1952, Lillie married the love of her life, Aaron Crowley. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Arkansas, where they began their family. Three of their six children, Aaron Jr., James, and Dennis were born during their time there. Later, the family relocated to Denver, Colorado, where they welcomed Freddie, Barbara, and Kenneth.

Lillie dedicated more than 40 years of her life to the healthcare field, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She retired from Bella Vita Towers, having lovingly served countless elderly patients, many of whom adored her gentle spirit and compassionate care.

A faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church for over 50 years under the leadership of Pastor Oscar Morgan, Jr. Lillie was deeply committed to God and her church community. She served in numerous roles, including Sunday School Superintendent and Deaconess, and found great joy and purpose in her walk with the Lord.

Lillie was a woman of many passions. She loved walking, cooking, gardening, crocheting, and most of all, spending time with her family. Sunday dinners were her hallmark, and her kitchen was always filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of home-cooked meals. She took great pride in her garden, often sharing fresh vegetables with neighbors, friends, and even strangers. Her hands were always busy, her heart always full.

Those who knew Lillie will remember her kindness, warmth, and quiet strength. She embodied the spirit of Proverbs 31: a virtuous woman is industrious, wise, generous, and deeply faithful. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a pillar in her community. Her worth, indeed, far exceeded that of rubies.

Lillie departed this life peacefully on June 23, 2025, in the comfort of her home. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aaron Crowley Sr.; her sons Aaron Jr., James Edward, Dennis Ray Sr., and Freddie Lee; her parents, James and Callener Chaney; her brothers Willie James (infant), Oscar (Sonny), Rufus, Harry Sr., Collins Sr., and Hollis (Snowball); and her sisters Mary Lee Dunn, Ruby (infant), Corinne Betty Davis, and Dorothy Burton.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her only daughter, Barbara J. Crowley, and her son, (babyboy) Kenneth D. Crowley, Sr (Jean); ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, along with a host of extended family members, friends, and a community forever blessed by her presence. Her Sister Dorothy and her children held a special place in her heart.

Lillie's legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in all who had the privilege to know her. She
will be greatly missed.
