Obituary

We fondly remember Lawrence Harold Christenson, known affectionately as Lonnie, a man of wit, thoughtful spirit, and boundless love. Born on May 26, 1953, in Kimball, Nebraska, Lonnie spent his life touching the hearts of all who knew him, leaving an indelible impact with his infectious humor and spirited persona. He was a loyal and dedicated fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, an enthusiasm mirrored in his passion for live high school sports and college football. Lonnie's love for his family and grandchildren was the most significant part of his life, reflecting the words of 1 Corinthians 16:14, "Let all that you do be done in love."

Lawrence was a man of valor, serving our country with honor and dedication in the United States Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic Petty Officer First Class (AMS1). His commendable service was acknowledged with several awards, including the Good Conduct Award (3rd award), Battle "E" Ribbon (2nd award), Letter of Commendation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (4th award), National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Navy Unit Commendation. Lawrence's spirited dedication extended beyond his military service, evident in his regular attendance at Calvary Chapel, where he nourished his Christian faith.

Lonnie is survived by his loving siblings, Nancy Brandt, Becky Holloway, Deborah Hottell, Christopher Christenson, Michell (Micky) Halstead, and Richard Christenson; his son Bobby Christenson and daughter-in-law Casey Christenson; his son Gerald Shonebarger and Daughter-in-law Diane Shonebarger, his son Daniel Shonebarger, and daughter-in-law Jessica Shonebarger; and his cherished grandchildren Aaron Lord, Kylie Christenson, Morgan Christenson, Danica Shonebarger, Hannah Anderson, Raiden Gloy, Journi Christenson, Caden Shonebarger and Ryland Shonebarger.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda Christenson, and his parents, Harold and Betty Christenson. Lonnie held his numerous nieces and nephews near and dear to his heart, leaving a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire.
In the words of Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Lonnie's spirit lives on in all who knew and loved him. We invite you to share your memories, express condolences, or upload photos on the memorial page to celebrate Lawrence's remarkable life.
