Obituary

The sun rose on the life of Jeffrey "Ham Shank" Carl McFarland on February 20, 1971, in Denver, Colorado, when he was born to Nina Hayes and Marvin Hayes. He was educated in the Denver Public School system and worked at Personal Touch Catering Service and Care Touch for over 25 years.

Jeff was raised as a member of Zion Baptist and often found solace and strength in (Psalm 91:1-2) "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "HE is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

He will be remembered as a quick-witted jokester who had a strong love for his family and had the keen ability to make everyone around him erupt into laughter. His family all agree that his quiet strength shaped them into the people they are today.

Jeff was a man whose life was as multi faceted as the amount of nicknames he adopted, from being a tough opponent on the basketball court, a skilled dominoes player, to a renowned fisherman, there was nothing he could not do when he set his mind to it. He had an all-around love of sports, diehard Raiders fan to be exact, but his ability to bring people together thru laughter and fellowship will always shine through.

The sun set on the life of Mr. Jeffrey C. McFarland on April 24, 2026, in Denver, Colorado when he passed from this life to his eternal rest.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his mother Nina, mother-in-law Joyce Abram grandparents; Grandpa A.D, Granny Minnie and aunts Kayleen Holland and Helen Green.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Tene Abram-McFarland; his children, Shanika, LaJay, Mari (Deron), RahShay, Jayla and Jeffrey Jr; his father Marvin; grandchildren,  Taveaun, Asaiah, Jaire and Zamaria; his siblings, Nicole (Derrick), Dwayne, Katrina, Denail, Billy and Mike. He also leaves behind his beloved Auntie Roxy, Aunt Melva and his uncles; Cornell, Carl, and Virgil, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

His presence, love, and laughter will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family invites all who knew and loved Jeff to join us in celebrating his life, on Friday, May 8th, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Greater Union Baptist Church (1880 Xanthia Street, Denver, CO).  A repast will follow and will be announced after his services.
