James Edward Scroggins passed away June 9, 2024 at Kindred Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He was born December 29, 1943 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Willie V. Scroggins and Eddie Morgan Jr. He was raised in Keithville, Louisiana by his Great Grandparents Sanders Scroggins and Georgia Corner Black Scroggins on the John Gin Road.
He loved telling stories about his childhood and family in Spring Ridge. As a child, James was baptized in the Holy Spirit at Crossroads Baptist Church, Spring Ridge, Louisiana where he also sang in the choir. As a boy he loved running in the woods barefoot and fishing with his cousins. Later in life he enjoyed hunting and fishing with close friends.
In the 1960s, James came to Denver with relatives. It was in Denver that he met and soon married his wife of nearly 57 years, Merriel Martin. From this union there were two children, a son and daughter. James was very proud of his grandchildren and was always happy when they visited.
James worked for over 30 years for Morse Chain Industries and Ice-O-Matic Manufacturing before retirement.
He was preceded in death by both parents and three sisters Maxine Brooks, Georgia Mae Lattin, and Meryl Ann Hall; and two brothers Curtis Brooks and Robert Lee Hall.
His survivors include wife, Merrriel Scroggins of Denver, Colorado; son, Appolo E. Scroggins (Paula) Shreveport, Louisiana and daughter, Tamira Scroggins of Denver, Colorado. Two Sisters Christine McClinton, Charity Mae Golston (Leo) and one brother Johnny Lee Brooks all of Shreveport Louisiana. Grandchildren Daniel Sperry of Castlerock Colorado, Alejandre Winn, Las Vegas, Nevada, A. Elijah Scroggins II of Hanford California, Anthony Scroggins of Shreveport Louisiana, Tiffany Scroggins of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and his favorite niece, Rose Marie Young of Shreveport, Louisiana. Sisters in Law Blanche Johnson, Emma Wade, and Glenda Ames all of Denver. Wyomia Spragg of Compton, California, Lillian Lovette of Los Angeles, California and Patsy Ducre of Tampa, Florida. He is survived by a whole host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
