After graduating high school he attended Metropolitan State College.
As a teenager, he would not leave his younger siblings at home after school and would take them to hang out with him, getting them all into trouble with their mother!
A fond/funny memory of his younger sister Terrie, was of him and his younger brother Penny eating green apples from a tree after being warned not to by their mother…each of them got a dose of castor oil from mom and the fight for the bathroom began!
James, fondly known as Jr., was a man who inspired everyone around him with his infectious energy and laughter,
loyalty.and unyielding passion for life.
James had many jobs over the years and certainly possessed an entrepreneurial spirit!
He owned and operated, Hampton Bail Bonds for 11 years.
In addition to his business He later worked as a union forklift operator for Safeway Stores, which he retired from.
James loved to go fishing and shared many trips and stories with his beloved friend John McBride.
He also enjoyed an occasional trip to "Blackhawk" with his sisters!
A great gardener with a "green thumb", yielded him a beautiful and envious yard and a wonderful vegetable garden. These skills he learned and inherited from his mother who was also blessed with the gift of growing and a "green thumb!"
He was a man who cherished the simple pleasures in life and found joy in spending time with his childhood and lifelong friends;
Johnny McBride, Darrell (Big Red), Jerry, Jimmy and Pat McGee, Tony and Peggy Snell, , Mark Pipkins, and Charell Robinson. They were not only his friends, but his family, as they shared countless memories and laughter-filled moments together throughout the years.
James and Zina Renee Robinson were wed on June 22, 1974 in Denver Colorado.
Renee remembers James being so full of life, and looking forward to starting a family.
"We've Only Just Begun!"
To this union one son James B. Hampton III was born. James was a devoted father and was extremally proud of his son.
James's love for his family was unparalleled, and he took great pride in the achievements of his son, James III, and his granddaughter, Asia Hampton.
Asia fondly remembers the bike rides they would take across the city, teaching her to drive and gifting her with her first car!
Asia also recalls with a smile, her time spent with James working in his yard.
On many occasions she accompanied him during his days as a bail bondsman, where she would collect the rewards for a job well done.
James is survived by his son, James III; his ex-wife, Zina Renee; his granddaughter Asia Hampton; his sisters, Terrie, Joydell, and Patricia; his brother, Donnell; and his loved ones, LaDana, Chenene, (like sisters) and Samuel Singleton (like a son).

As we gather to honor James's memory, let us remember the life he lived, the love he shared, and the joy he brought to those around him.
To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
