James Davis was born July 3,1936 in DeSoto, Mississippi to his loving parents Henry Davis and Floydia Robinson. He was later adopted by Willie Pink and moved to Greenville, Mississippi.
He attended school in Mississippi. James was an only child; he was given the nickname Fatboy at an early age. To this day he is known by Family and Friends by that name.
James met and married Margaret Triplett on August 13, 1955, then moved to Colorado.
They were blessed with four beautiful children Barbara, Sylvester (Sly), Dale, and Laura.
James always said what he meant; I think the filter went off at birth. He did not know how to sugar coat anything. James had to be taken out of many funerals, because he did not agree with the speakers. He started reading his bible at a youthful age and would also read to his grandmother who could not read. If you tried to preach or tell him something you could not back up in the bible. He was going to get up and try and correct you, he said the Bible was right and everybody else is wrong even him.
James was a wise and generous man. He would give you a fish a few times, then he would tell you he was going to teach you how to fish so you will not come back to him.
James was a quiet person, until it was time to turn it up. He loved to crash his grandsons Keith and Sharees 's dominoes party; all the guys affectionately called him Pops.
James had a love/hate relationship with the Colorado Rockies. He could not understand why his granddaughter Shannaya would go downtown to see the games in person. She offered him several times to go but he would always say no.
He always had two TV's and the radio going at the same time. Wester, Sandford and Son, and baseball on the radio.
James Davis was preceded in death by his parents Willie (Shine) and Floydia Pink, Henry Davis, his son Dale Andrew Davis, his oldest granddaughter Shonda Lyvette Davis-Buckman, and son-in law Elder Frank Stepney.
He also leaves to cherish his son Sylvester (Sly) Davis and his daughters Barbara Stepney, Laura (Marcus) Drake, seven grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, and God-sons Claude Stepney, and Eloid Booker Sr. (Slim), and a host of other relatives and many bonus sons who call him Pops.
