Hovis "Otis" James, (76), of Denver, CO, passed away on December 17, 2023 surrounded by friends and family. Hovis, fondly known as Otis, was born to Johnny James and Lola Mae James, on May 14, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating, Hovis went to the army to fight for his country and returned to start a career as a talented construction worker and landscaper. Hovis spent his free time fishing, watching football, Spending time with family, and traveling around the country. Hovis was preceded in death by: Otha James, Thelton James (brother), Rosa Lee Edward's (sister), Margaret Cash, Verdie Mae James, Prudence (Russell) Roberts, Gloria Jean Wilcox, Jo Lynn Harris, Marvin Paige, Kenneth James Jr, and Judy Mullins. Hovis is survived by his children: Bridget Williams, Teashia James, Viney James, and Kenneth James. His grandchildren Simone Williams, Antionette Taylor, Latavia James, Brandon Williams, Jasmine Taylor, Paris Taylor, Essence Williams, Kenya Williams, Madison Williams, Eboni Williams, Tre'vounce Duckworth. Including many Great Grandchildren. Hovis is also survived by his sister, Ernestine (Hubert) West, Johnnie (Veronica) James Jr., Lee A. "Rayford"(Vickie) James, Hovis held many titles in his life, from artist to entrepreneur, but his favorite role was being a father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his adult children and grandchildren. Hovis was passionate about taking care of everyone. He was always the first to ask if you needed help and was the most generous when it came to providing for his family. You could always expect him to give you a piece of his mind and although at times he was hard on you, it was only because he wanted you to do better. The only thing deeper than the pain of losing you was our love. Life is what you make it. And you made it beautiful. Hovis positively impacted our community and the people around him, and his presence will be truly missed.
