Guy Schoonmaker died at UC Health on 1/09/2024 surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Nelson (Schoonmaker), stepdaughter Erika Salvador, stepson Tyson Nelson, granddaughter Stella Salvador and his brother and sisters, Gayle, Nancy, Richard and their families consisting of eight nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews.
Guy was born and raised in Willmington Delaware, where he became a Fighting Blue Hen after graduating from High School. In 1982 he moved to the Vail Valley with his sister and her family. From 1984-2021 he worked at Colorado Fasteners and Specialty Tools. In 2021 he started working at Maximum Comfort Pool and Spa as he was winding down to retirement. Anyone who met Guy was welcomed into his fold. He had your back, fed you if were hungry and always had a joke to lighten your load. He stood back so everyone else could shine. As one friend wrote to him "To Guy Schoonmaker- Who welcomed all comers and reigned supreme over the residents and visitors of Beaver Bench Condos throughout the 90's, married his Queen who is the envy of all, thence wisely sidestepped to a reserved lifestyle of domestic bliss in the hollows of Edwards, CO. May the Eagles always be up by 3, may the books at Fasteners be exact, and may your kind and generous spirit be missed and appreciated by your many many good friends."
Guy will be celebrated on March 2nd, at 2:00 at Gracious Savior in Edwards. To be followed by Guy's Happy Hour where we can share our stories and toast his spirit. Please wear your Eagle's gear and/or your party shirt (Hawaiian shirt).
A Guy Schoonmaker Memorial fund has been set up at FirstBank to help with the unexpected
expenses.
