Eric Von Gandy

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we share that Eric Von Gandy, 70, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on July 29, 2026.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his warmth, humor, generosity, and the way he made people feel respected. Eric was born on March 26, 1956, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to John William Gandy and Bessie Elizabeth Parks-Gandy. Eric grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1974 and attended Hobbs Junior College on a full basketball scholarship.

He built a life grounded in faith, family, service, and learning, and took pride in a career in public transportation. Over the years, Eric worked as a transportation agent for Albuquerque Public Transportation Services, then transitioned to the Greyhound Bus Company, where he traveled interstate. Finally, he worked for the Colorado Public Transportation Service.

As a public transportation operator, Eric was known for his work ethic and discipline. He was punctual, courteous, and a mentor to other drivers. He often instructed inexperienced drivers on safety guidelines for navigating treacherous highways in stormy weather.

To those who knew Eric, he will be remembered for his passion for traveling, fishing, and sports. He often traveled to campgrounds and sightseeing spots across multiple states. He enjoyed fishing and would often take his son to explore fishing holes. Eric also enjoyed sports. His son asked him to coach their basketball team, and the Sandia Prep Sundevils won multiple state titles and earned several accolades.

Eric was a sports enthusiast, and in June of 1979, the Triple-A minor league team in Albuquerque, New Mexico, invited him to a baseball tryout to join the professional team.

Eric gave his life to Christ at a young age and was baptized under the tutelage of the late W.W. Williams at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Later, while living in Denver, Colorado, Eric became active in church again, as noted by his friend’s comments: “Eric worked in church and felt his church was his Denver family.”

Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oliver Parks and Eldora Parks; his great-uncle, Oliver Parks, Jr.; his parents, John William Gandy and Bessie Elizabeth Parks-Gandy; his sister, Glory Parks Vines; and his son, Eric Lamar Gandy.

He is survived by his brother, Reverend Andre L. Gandy, and his wife, Teresa M. Gandy, of California, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Reflecting on a memory

Dear Uncle Eric, thank you for always being so kind, loving, and supportive. You carried a warm smile and a genuine concern for how everyone around you was doing, and I will always remember that. I’ll cherish the sound of your laugh, the way you and my dad greeted each other with “Hey, brah,” and your stories about your drives around town. While my heart is heavy, I find comfort knowing you are finally able to rest with Grandma and little Eric. May God cover your soul with His love, and may you rest peacefully in the arms of Jesus. The celebration of life will and viewing be held on August 26, 2026, from 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Harris Funeral Directors, 9722 East 16th Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80010, with Reverend Andre L. Gandy officiating.
