Ena Roslyn Nattoo (Jones) was born March 3rd, 1930 in Hampstead, Saint Mary, Jamaica, West Indies. Ena was the third child of seven born to James and Elsie Nattoo. Her siblings are Jytule (Sissy) (Deceased: D), Cecil (D), Policeta (Polly), Lyndsay, Neville (Trevor) (D), and Paulette (Peggy). Ena and her siblings excelled in school and learned to conduct business working in their parents' shop.
Upon adulthood, Ena moved to England to study nursing, following in the footsteps of her older sister Sissy. She obtained her RN certification in 1961 and worked as a nurse in England for many years. She met and married (a ten-year union) Denty Jones, an American GI. Together, they moved to America with two of her three children, 6-year-old Cenea (Candy) and 5-year-old Deshawn. 18-year-old Paulette (Teddy) continued to live in England with family at her request. They moved to Colorado near Denty's family.
Once settled, Ena persevered to obtain her Colorado nursing license reigniting her passion for helping others. She had an illustrious and decorated career working at Mercy Hospital, Rocky Mountain Hospital, South Monaco Care Center, and St. Joseph Hospital for over thirty years. She retired at age 62 in 1992. Ena was spoken of well by her many patients, coworkers, and doctors for her caring nature and strict work ethic.
During retirement, Ena devoted more time gardening and tending to her colorful and plentiful flower beds. Her vegetable gardens were robust and thrived. Ena often expressed herself in her kitchen. She enjoyed baking during the Christmas holidays, was known for her love of tacos, and occasionally appreciated a glass of red wine alongside her son. Her Jamaican roots were often a part of her cooking; the spicier, the better, and a cold Red Stripe beer while listening to Reggae music. Ena had an affinity for football.
She became an avid fan of her local sports team, the Denver Broncos. During football season, before her brother-in-law, Tony (Aunt Polly's husband), passed, Ena looked forward to his phone calls and gentle ribbing over a Bronco loss. Another favorite pastime of Ena's was playing scrabble, in which she was often the champion. Ena also enjoyed traveling. She extensively traveled throughout the U.S., including Alaska, and made several trips to England and her home, Jamaica.
Ena had four grandchildren, Paul, Mikkel, Nichelle, and Erica (Deceased). She had several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She enjoyed spoiling them and sharing stories of her childhood.
Over the past ten years, Ena had the great fortune to live with family. She was surrounded by caregivers Candy and granddaughter Nichelle, her grandson-in-law Marc (Nichelle's husband), and 11-year-old great grand twins Caleb and Camille. Ena frequently enjoyed visits with Teddy, Deshawn, Mikkel Sr, Kiara, her great-granddaughter, and many other local relatives. Ena truly lived like a queen.
Ena was surpassed in death by both of her parents, both brothers (Cecil and Trevor), eldest sister (Sissy) and granddaughter (Erica). Those left to carry on Ena's rich family traditions are her three sisters (Polly, Lyn, and Peggy), three children (Teddy, Candy, and Deshawn), grandchildren (Paul, Mikkel, and Nichelle), and several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
