This past Thursday Elijah Benham Mary's son and my stepson, lost his life long struggle with Cystic Fibrosis. Elijah and his fiance Charlotte had been living with us while he worked towards a cyber security degree at Pueblo Community College and was working in the field when his health started to decline. Through Elijah I became educated in how hideous a disease CF is ! I came to admire how he handled all that came with it and the numerous hospitalizations he endured. Not to mention the many experimental treatments he volunteered for in order to get a better medical understanding of how to deal with CF. Elijah's health had many peaks and valleys in my time with him and we are very thankful for organ donors who gave him additional years. Life is not fair and bearing with the unbearable is now the reality for our family and for all of his friends. I will always remember Elijah for his mindset as he dealt with his condition! He was wise well beyond the 27 years he spent on this mortal plane. He always tried to dwell on the positive and entertained us with his unorthodox sense of humor. We are shattered because with losing him we all have lost a part of ourselves. He was a shining light to all who knew him and we will move forward covered in his eternal glow. We love you Elijah!....
