Mother Dorothy Mae "Sweet Mama" Moore

Dorothy Mae Moore, aka Sweet Momma Sunrise August 3, 1934, sunset February 1,2024 Dorothy was the first girl and 5th child born into the family, in Marianna Arkansas. Her parents were the late Joe Willie and Ruby Lee Weeams. Her early childhood consisted of playing and working hard, fondly known as Dorice to the family raised with her brothers Clarence, Robert (Mike), Charlie (Daddy), and sisters Pearlie (Inez), Markeen (Hun), Vernastine (Midget), the family relocated to Denver in 1952, in search of a better opportunity. Dorothy was the last to migrate to Colorado in 1954. Dorothy professed her love for Christ at an early age raised in a Christian home, Dorothy was baptized in the pond behind Mt Zion Baptist Church in Marianna, Arkansas. Her walk with Christ was very important to her, she demonstrated that in all aspects of her life. Later, she became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Denver Co, in 1955, where she served on their Usher Board, aide to the Pastor, and member of the Missionary Auxiliary. Dorothy was the last member of the Macedonia Prayer Band. This group of Holy Spirited filled women, visited and prayed for many under the leadership of her dear friend Sister Rose Davis. Ushering was her thing for over forty-five years. She took pride in ushering and would be distraught if it wasn't done properly, this was a tradition instilled by her father in her, and she continued the tradition with her grandchildren, who all ushered. Dorothy served as an instructor for the Colorado Baptist State of Ushers. One of the most rewarding events in her Christian walk was when her grandson, Rev Dr. DeWayne Moore founded the Ebenezer Baptist Church in 2012. Where she managed her post as the eldest usher the only thing that could keep her away was critical illness. By profession she was a cook and housekeeper, and she had her own Janitorial service. She retired after sixty-five years of hard work. Dorothy was widowed young with two children due to the tragic death of Mr. Adolphas Ladd Sr. She met and blew the mind of Mr. Abraham Moore (Mo) they were married on July 29, 1960, and their journey began, raising three children Esther Jean Moore, Adolphas Ladd Jr., and Sandra Anne Moore. This life was full of events and adventures. Dinner parties, family gatherings, road trips, vacations, and the first colored TV for the household. Then came the grandchildren, the baby boy of the bunch Brandon, tagged her by the name Sweet- momma, and her super cape to the rescue. Abraham departed this life in 1996. Dorothy loved cooking and gathering the family together for holidays and Sunday dinners with peach cobbler, greens, fried chicken, and the best homemade ice cream ever made. In the younger days she loved her some BB King. Abraham would automatically make reservations when he came to town. The phone would start ringing when he aired on tv. If you ever had a birthday cake, or she told you it was going to be alright stand up. Dorothy has now joined her parents along with her siblings that have proceeded her in death Clarence Banks Jr, Charlie Weeams, Pearlie Mae Anderson, Markeen Weeams, Vernestine Lowe, and infant Joseph. Rest well dear Dorothy Mae Moore (Sweet momma) in the Lords hands. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Esther Jean Brown (Amos), son Adolphas Ladd Jr., daughter Sandra Anne Moore, grandchildren Dr. DeWayne Moore (Wyndera) Amos Leon Brown Jr., Jeffry Lanelle Brown, Brandon Michael Taylor (Megan), nine great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. One brother Robert Weeams (Elizabeth), sister in-law Mable Banks, Denver CO, many nieces and nephews, dozens of cousins, countless numbers of friends.
