With profound sorrow yet an enduring celebration of life lived fully, we honor Doris Jean Owens, who was born to the union of Robert Owens and Francis Mackey on February 19, 1962, in Denver, Colorado. Doris, a loving, supportive, creative, and dedicated woman, departed from this world on July 11, 2023. The brightness of her spirit continues to shine, illuminating the lives of those she touched.
Doris dedicated 15 years of her life to serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Veteran's Community Living Center At Fitzsimmons. She was a pillar of strength and comfort to her patients, co-workers, and community. As Maya Angelou once said, "As a nurse, we have the opportunity to heal the heart, mind, soul and body of our patients, their families and ourselves." This healing virtue was embodied by Doris, whose love for her career was inspired by her deep-rooted desire to protect her family and help those in need. Doris was the embodiment of love and support, always extending a helping hand whenever and wherever she could.
Beyond her professional life, Doris was the heartbeat of her family and friends. She was a vibrant soul, always the center of attention, and her laughter filled every room. Doris was a creative spirit in the kitchen, delighting in preparing big meals for her loved ones. Her gatherings, often accompanied by music, were the highlight of many happy memories. Doris was also affectionately known as a "sista soldier" and a "fox," her self-confidence and style evident to all who knew her. Doris is survived by her children, Brandy Owens, Tierra Smith, Robert Owens, and Justin Owens. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Owens and Francis Mackey.
