It is with heavy hearts and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of Donnell McDonald, who left this world on November 11, 2023. Known affectionately as "Don" by his loved ones, he was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on September 14, 1938 and raised by his grandparents, James and Lula McDonald. He later made his home in Denver, Colorado, after living in Dayton, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan. He was a compassionate, dedicated, loving, and witty individual who touched the lives of those around him. As Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Donnell lived this quote, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of those he encountered. Donnell was a dedicated professional who spent 25 years as a Tablet Coating Supervisor in the pharmaceutical industry. His work ethic and commitment made him a respected figure in his field. Away from work, Donnell was an avid gardener and sports enthusiast, with a particular love for basketball. His garden was a testament to his nurturing spirit, while his competitive streak shone on the basketball court. His passion and enthusiasm for these hobbies were infectious, making them an integral part of his legacy.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara McDonald, to whom he was married since June 18, 1960. Donnell will also be greatly missed by his daughters Cassandra Mensah, Charlotte (Wisdom) Okoroh and Donna (Antonio) Wilson; his grandchildren Amber and Andre McDonald, Barrahdai Simmons, Taylor, Tyler, and Travis Parrish Jr.,Tokala Mensah and Christian Wilson; his siblings, Barbara Broomfield, Susie Roberts, Patricia Straight, Ethel Alexander, and brother Nathaniel Alexander; Eleven great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Lula McDonald, parents, Laura McDonald and Gardner Ellington, and his sister, Mary Furlow.
