Debra Woods, a devoted advocate, caregiver, and proud Denver sports fan, passed away on AUGUST 20th, 2025, in Aurora, CO.
The only daughter among four children, Debra grew up with three older brothers, James, Nick, and Harold, who taught her to speak up with courage and compassion all her life. Debra served as a paralegal with the ACLU and later at a private law firm in downtown Denver, where she championed the rights of marginalized communities and stood by neighbors in need.
She was known for showing up, pitching in, and sharing whatever she had. At home, Debra lovingly cared for her mother, Addie Mae, for fifteen years, and more recently for her aunt, Fredia Williams.
She served faithfully as a church steward and cheered wholeheartedly for the Denver Broncos and Nuggets. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Addie Mae Guffie, and her biological father, Andrew Alexander.
She is survived by her brother James Alexander, nieces and nephews Nick Alexander, Benyi Alexander, Metise Moore Sr., Tina Moore, Tyrone Alexander, Monica Alexander, and great-nieces and great-nephews Metise Moore Jr., Madison Moore, Ariana Alexander, Jayden Alexander, and Alyssa Alexander. She was also a beloved mother-in-law within the Wylie–Woods family.
