Chief Master Sargent Ernest Thomas Davis Jr.
Ernie was born July 3, 1935 to Ernest Thomas Davis Sr and Evelyn B Sorrell-Robinson in Baltimore, MD. He was the oldest of three and known as Junior to his family; Ernie and Dave to friends and co-workers; Dad to his children; Papa and Grandpa to grandchildren & great children; Noopy to his wife Janice
Ernie attend public school in Baltimore. MD; Community College of Denver; and University of Maryland extension campus.
Ernie was baptized in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD at an early age; joined the Presbyterian church during his military career; and later joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Denver, CO under the leadership of Senior Pastor

Ernie met and married Semond Betty Benson. During this union they were blessed with five boys: Ernest Thomas Davis, III; Lawrence Davis; Ricky Davis; Gregory Davis and Michael Davis.
In 1985 he was introduced to Janice Phillips Philio. They dated for 2 years; were engaged a year while being mentored and counseled by the late Pastor Dr. John B. Morris.

On June 11, 1988 Ernie & Janice were married by the late Reverend Dr. Wendell Liggins at Macedonia. At this time Melvin joined the other sons and they formed a strong brotherly bond.

Ernie had a diverse employment history and outstanding service commitment and was proud of his many careers: Baltimore City Fire Department – Truck #16; Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad; Glenn L. Martin Company; US Air Force; Part-time US Post Office; Colorado Air National Guard 140th Tactical Fighter Wing (retired December 1989 – 26 years); Customer Service Agent and trainer-, United Airlines (retired 2005 – 15 years); and Hertz (2019).
Ernie received numerous service awards in every endeavor during his military service:
1966-1988 UAF Outstanding Service Awards/140th Tactical Fighter Group
1968 US Bronze Star Medal with "V" device for valor in ground operations at Phang Rang Air Base, Vietnam
1968 Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm
1968 Outstanding Unit Award with "V" device for outstanding service in Vietnam
1969 Vietnam Service Medal with 4 campaign stars

1971 One of 12 Outstanding Soldiers of the Year in Colorado recognized by the Colorado State Senate
1975 Outstanding Achievement and Superior Award for Disaster Preparedness
1985 USAF Safety Citation, USAF Commendation Medal; and US Achievement Medal
1988 USAF Meritorious Service Medal
1988 Colorado Meritorious Service Award

Ernie was permanently employed by United Airlines after completing training and six month temporary service. He immediately resumed his outstanding commitment to service receiving Outstanding Service Quarterly Awards; Departmental Service Achievement Awards; 5, 10 and 15 Years Service Awards.
Ernie was a charter and active member of the Colorado Rocky Mountain Cyber Lions Club; serving as board member since May 2011. He loved traveling and participating in conventions around the nation and other countries. Member DAV; American Legion; former 32nd degree Mason Washington, DC
He assisted Janice in forming the Christmas Hospitality Group that has hosted annual Christmas parties 21+ years for special friends.
Through good and bad health, Ernie always had a smile and kind words for everyone. He answered God's call and transcended from his earthly home April 2, 2023.
He leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his extraordinary legacy: his devoted wife Janice Davis; Sons Ricky Davis; Gregory Davis (Darci); Michael Davis; Melvin Philio (Trish)
Grandchildren: Aubranae Kelly; Britney Jade French Davis (Chris); Trevor Philio; Devin Philio; Olivia Davis; Austin Davis; Bruin Davis; Great Grandchildren: Najiir Davis and Amari Michael Davis
Nieces: Katrina Arrington (Carlton Patrick); Valerie Maryann, Rita; Nephews Donald, Andre, Rodney and Cousin Michael Gales (Gladys)
Sister-in-Law: Cheryl Phillips Pierson; Brothers in Law: Gary Smith (Margaret); Kenneth Phillips
And a host of great nieces; nephews and friends.
Ernie is preceded in death by parents Ernest Thomas Davis Sr and Evelyn B. Davis-Cole; Brother: Clarence Davis; Sister: Evelyn B. Davis Dorsey(Baby Sis); Sons: Ernest Thomas Davis III and Lawrence Davis.
A Man is a Success –
