Obituary

Calvin L. Ferguson, known fondly as Gus, was born on January 27, 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee. He loved to tell people, "I am a Southern man, born and bred, through and through." Calvin had a way of captivating everyone around him with his wit and humor. He was a man of many talents, but what he was most known for was his ability to make others laugh. "Laughter is an instant vacation," he would often say, and certainly, his humor was a vacation for all who knew him.

Calvin served in the United States Army, a chapter of his life he was immensely proud of. It was during this time that he learned the value of service and sacrifice, values he carried with him throughout his life. After his service, he returned to his beloved Memphis, where he enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: drinking beer (BUSCH), watching TV, and most importantly, making his family laugh. In his own words, "Those are the things that make life worth living."

His unique blend of humor, wit, and unconditional love will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As Calvin would say, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Sr. and Ora Ferguson and his siblings, Dorothy Ferguson, Irene Murray, and Percy Jr.

Calvin was never married, but he was surrounded by the love of his sisters, Betty (James) Chapman, Debra Ferguson, and Lisa (Lee Andre') Taber, nieces, and nephews, Tabitha Murray, Milton Murray, Arthur Andre Ferguson, Nycole Chapman- Grayson, Tracie Chapman, Jeremy Madlock, Andrea (Jeremy) Harris, and Adrianna Taber, 6 great nieces and nephews, 3 great great nieces and nephews, a special cousin James (Lacy) Ferguson Sr. as well as a host of cousins, and friends.

In the words of Frank Sinatra "For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught To say the things he truly feels And not the words of one who kneels The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way".

Calvin certainly lived and did things his way.
