Brenda Gail Hollins was born on June 15, 1956, in Denver, Colorado. She was the eldest of eight children born to Ruby Marie Porter and was raised in Denver, where she grew up surrounded by her beloved brothers and sisters. Brenda received her formal education through the Denver Public Schools system.
In 1972, Brenda welcomed her son, Calvin Porter, with Calvin J. Stone. In 1979, she welcomed her daughter, Gina Mays, with Patrick S. DeNiro. In October 1986, Brenda married the love of her life, Clarence A. Hollins, and through their marriage became a devoted and loving stepmother to Clarence's son, Victor Hollins.
In her younger years, Brenda worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in several nursing homes throughout the Denver area. She later dedicated many years of service as a domestic staff worker at Presbyterian Saint Luke's Hospital, where her compassion and strong work ethic were evident. Brenda retired from her professional career in 2005.
Brenda was known for her exceptional cooking and took great pride in preparing meals for her family. She had impeccable taste, was a sharp dresser, and carried a radiant smile and presence that could light up any room. With her wonderful sense of humor, Brenda had a special gift for making family and friends laugh. She also possessed a generous and giving heart, always willing to help anyone in need. She was also known for her sharp mind and strong business sense.
Family was Brenda's greatest joy. During her retirement, she cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren, pouring love, laughter, and wisdom into every moment they shared. She was truly the heart of her family; supportive, nurturing, and deeply devoted.
On Sunday, January 4, 2026, Brenda peacefully departed this world in her home. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Clarence Hollins; her sisters, Juanita Porter and Charlotte Cauthen; and her mother, Ruby Marie Porter and her grandmother, Jimmie Lee Griffin.
Brenda is survived by her children, Calvin Porter and Gina Mays (Dayvaughn Mays); her grandchildren, Caiden Porter, Sofia Mays, and Esias Mays; her brothers, Michael Porter, Leon Porter, and Guston Owens (Theresa Owens); her sisters, Ruby Porter and Cheryl Porter; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Brenda leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, class, and laughter. She will forever be remembered for her joyful and humorous spirit, her unwavering dedication to her family, and the warmth she brought to all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us in body, her presence will remain eternally in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
