Obituary

Bobbi Jo Jones, known affectionately to many as Bobbi, BJ, and Auntie Bobbi. Or to her grandkids as Grandma, BooBoo, and Burta was a beacon of light, laughter, and love in the lives of all who knew her. Born on January 8, 1953, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Bobbi was a dedicated woman of faith, a funny storyteller, fiercely loyal to her loved ones, and generous beyond measure. Her vibrant spirit and infectious laughter will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.

Bobbi's zest for life was evident in everything she did. Growing up in Denver she attended Gilpin elementary and Cole junior high. Later, she graduated from Manuel High school class of 1971 where she received 'Most likely to succeed.' In her senior year of high school she gave birth to her baby boy Myron. She often reminisced about how beautiful his blue eyes were, his blonde hair, and his beautiful dark skin. Following high school Bobbi attended Trinidad Junior college where she received a certification in Accounting. Working as an employee for the City and County of Denver, Bobbi was employed by Denver health and Mesa laboratories. After retirement, she further served her community working at Clayton College as a janitor, where she also cooked with her mom.

Bobbi was a passionate woman, who loved cooking, cleaning, playing card games like Rumi 5000, and watching westerns from her favorite chair. She loved her music, and her captivating stories often filled her home with laughter. Her grandkids remember her best friends spending time at the house also playing cards and cooking food. Renee, Lisa, Harold, and Regina just to name a few. Bobbi and Cornell were also great friends. She was very grateful for their bond. To know her was to love her! Bobbi was a devoted mother and grandmother, her daughter and grandkids were her world. She did everything with them and for them. Her granddaughters say she was the BEST. She was a woman of God, a member of Mount Sinai and Greater Union Baptist Church, and took great joy in sharing her faith and the word of God with her family. As the verse in Proverbs 31:25-26 states, "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue," Bobbi lived these words every day.

A special thanks to the close friends and family that were there when Bobbi needed you most. She loved you all and thanks you so much. You know who you are!

Bobbi is survived by her loving daughter, Cornisha (LD) Dockins, her son-in-law LD Dockins, her granddaughters Dajanae Cortez and D'Vonie Allen, her great-granddaughter Qy'Onii Hines, her siblings Helen Borne, Wanda Gillespie, and Ronnie Smith. She was preceded in death by her dear mother Catherine Smith, her father Joseph Jones, and her siblings Billy Gant, Charles Smith, and Chandra Curry.

A memorial service to celebrate Bobbi's life will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 10:00am MST at the Greater Union Baptist Church, 1880 Xanthia Street, Denver, Colorado, 80220.
