Obituary

Alphonso Edmond Johnston was born on September 4, 1950 in Denver, Colorado to Joseph and Bertha Elizabeth (Tabb) Johnston. Alphonso was the fourth of nine children; Joseph Jr., Gwendolyn, Patricia, Christopher, Charles, Lorraine, Ronald, and Richard. Alphonso attended Wyatt Elementary, Cole Jr. High, and Manuel High School. He also attended Sewell House for several years, due to a speech impediment. Al did not speak until he was 3 or 4 years old. When he did speak it was to tell on his eldest sibling Jo, about something that he did wrong. Alphonso also attended CU Boulder. He left CU shy of 5 credit hours so that his sister Gwen could graduate before him. He always intended to return, but work and life got in the way. Alphonso worked for Mountain Bell telephone company for 20 years before leaving to pursue a career at RTD as a driver in December of 1984. While at RTD he was a union steward where he fought for those who he felt were unjustly treated. He later became a supervisor at the Boulder facility, where he worked until retirement. He worked for RTD for 27 years. After retirement he later worked for Connect-A-Ride in Montbello. Alphonso could appear to be brusque at times, but that was because he had been bullied so much in life. He actually was a kind, loving, and giving individual. Having no children of his own, Alphonso always tried to do whatever he could for his nieces and nephews, especially at Christmas.
Alphonso is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Bertha Johnston, his brother Ronald Johnston, and his dogs Mia and Jason. Alphonso Edmond Johnston leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, Joseph Johnston, Christopher Johnston, Charles Johnston, and Richard Johnston all of Denver, Colorado. He also leaves his 3 sisters, Gwendolyn Johnston, Patricia Allen, and Lorraine Johnston of Denver, Colorado. Helen Rahming, Willie Singleton, and Harold Bishop his special friends. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends, along with his dog Tim to wonder where he is.
